      Prof Neeta Inamdar
Coordinator, Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE) - CLIL@India Project
“CLIL@India is more than a project to us. It is painful when we see wide gaps in language acquisition among people of different socio-economic backgrounds. Two extreme situations; one sacrificing the native language for English and one having English as an aspirational language and as something unattainable. CLIL provides a mid-way and bridges this gap.”

      Dr Deepesh Chandrasekharan
      Executive Director, CLIL@India Project
“CLIL@India is a humble attempt at addressing the twin issues affecting the language education landscape in India - the ‘mother tongue-medium’ one where students yearn to learn English and see it as a passport to success, and the English-medium one that engenders subtractive bilingualism and ends up creating ‘Macaulay-putras/putris’.”

CLIL Pioneer, University of Jyväskylä Group, Finland
“We all have so much to learn by comparing and sharing our experiences in improving the quality of children’s education. The CLIL@India Project’s focus on teaching in an additional language – such as Tamil, Hindi or English – is extremely exciting and interesting. I hope we hear a lot more from the project over the next few years.”

“I learnt my Shakespeare through Kannada, and I would not have understood the meaning as well in English. Mass education in English might lead to jobs, but comes at the cost of cultural illiteracy. In all my travels, I have yet to see better folklore than the Tulu Paddana. Mother-tongue based education, say, as in Japan or Germany, is essential to ensure proper learning.”
